1. Scams create urgency or greed

Common scripts include “account will be blocked”, “KYC expires today”, “guaranteed return”, “police case”, or “limited investment slot”. The goal is to make you act before thinking.

Tip: Urgency is a reason to slow down.

2. Scammers impersonate trusted institutions

Caller ID, logos, fake websites and WhatsApp profiles can be copied. Verify through official channels you independently find.

Note: Do not verify a caller using the number or link the caller itself provides.

3. Secrets and remote access are high-risk requests

OTP, PIN, CVV, screen sharing and remote-control apps can enable account takeover or payment authorisation.

Note: Banks and legitimate institutions do not need your UPI PIN or OTP to “receive” money.

4. After fraud, speed matters

Contact the bank/payment provider immediately, block affected instruments, preserve evidence and use official cybercrime/police reporting channels.

Tip: Do not keep negotiating with the scammer after money is lost.

5. Quick check

A “bank officer” asks for your OTP to reverse a fraud transaction. What should you do?
